Archaic Acropolis Gallery

The first floor’s eastern and southern sections are devoted to the Acropolis during the Archaic period (700-480 BC) – an Acropolis different from the one of Classical times, which we know so well today, but of equal magnificence with impressive temples and numerous dedicatory offerings.

Natural light coming through the large windows and down from skylights in the roof creates the feeling of an open space and evokes the open-air atmosphere of the sanctuary on the Acropolis, where the ancient sculptures displayed here were originally erected.
